Hunter’s Wives Weekend

October 16th, 2008

This weekend is the annual Pheasant opener. A tradition of family time spent together.
The men head to the fields (some women and children too). The women shop. The women in my family
prefer the warmth of togetherness of shopping over the walking thru the fields. For years our homes have filled with out of town family. The excitement is felt by all. The men join together to laugh, poke fun at each other, the family dogs compete, and they all come home tired-but fulfilled. Filling the limit of birds is always a plus, but the time spent to together is the important factor.

I invite you to join us if you can at our store this weekend for fun and laughter. I am anxious for my sister and her family to arrive, as well as cousins and guests. Family time-a gift that I do not take for granted. I hope you have time for this in your busy lives.

Our Dansko sales representative, Michael Jensen will be joining us on Saturday to show the fall line and to preview the new spring 2009 line. We have had a fabulous fall season with all the new styles that Dansko has introduced this fall. We are offering specials on selected styles of Dansko’s. Call us
for information on this special-or visit the dansko pages on our website.

I look forward to visiting with you personally if you are able to stop by. We will also be introducing our fabulous collections of clothing and gift items. Watch for this grow as we near the Holidays.

Moving your child across the country

September 28th, 2008

I apologize if I have been unavailable to my many blessed clients this past few days. I have just spent the last 72 hours flying, packing, sweating-a few tears- lots of laughing and then climbing in the car at 6:17 p.m. on Friday Sacramento, Ca time and heading for Denver, Co. arriving Saturday evening at 11:45 pm.
Have you ever packed a cube? With your daughters life??? Two women-trying to be strong in 90 degrees heat and lugging box after box and furniture to this cube to be send by roadway after you???? Let me tell you my friends this is the ultimate bonding experience. You have not bonded with your offspring until you have experienced the running sweat and exhaustion that we experienced this past weekend. 24 hours of loading, 1286 miles of driving, 4 hours of sleep in between loading and driving. The ulitimate experience-I can not say anymore. But the gift is seeing your daughters boyfriends huge eyes, I mean huge (loving hug) at the end of it all.   Worth every ache-yes ache, The love that I see is wonderful. I wish our daughter Kristen (designer for all our emails) the best of luck in her new home and to her love Brandon. Take care of our daughter-keep her safe and well. I love you for being her protector. I love you for loving our daughter-what a gift to see. To our daugher Kristen–be happy in your new adventure-be Brandon’s support in grad school-love him back. To both good luck in your new lives. Oh to be 20 something again. But, the joy of being almost 50 and seeing your children happy. The best gift in life. To our son Zach-I wish you the same. And finally to all our customer’s-Thank-you for your patience while I was a mother this past weekend.  I am sorry if I was not available.  My emails did not always come thru depending on towers etc.  The joy of being a mother —–priceless.

SHOES ON MY FEET

September 16th, 2008

Everyday you and I take for granted shoes on our feet. We recently have teamed up with a wonderful organization that helps individuals-adults and children by providing them with footwear. Soles for Souls helps provide in the United States (Hurricane victims) (Any Disasters)-as well as Third World Countries with shoes.

Can you imagine having never owning a pair of shoes? This is real in Third World Countries. Disturbing - yes. So Help us Help those in need. Stop by our store and donate shoes for this wonderful cause.

Americans have an overabundance of shoes. Others do not.

How many shoes do you own? How many haven’t been worn in the past year? A good pair of practical shoes can make a difference for individuals helping curb diseases or simply a cut or scrape. Donations have reached 35 states and 50 countries thru this organization. Please check out their website:

www.soles4souls.org

Helping those in need thru a simple donation. We will be accepting shoe donations thru the 25th of Sept. Please help us. Questions call us at 605.225.0620 or visit our website www.burmarshoes.com

It’s our Anniversary

September 5th, 2008

In a few short days we will Celebrate our Stores Anniversary. We purchased Bur-Mar’s Shoes Sept. 9th, 1979.

As a family we Thank-you for the opportunities to help you with your footwear purchases over the past 29 years.

From Cherokee sandals, Candies slides, Zodiac boots and Yo-Yo sandals(all from the early years) to the first shipment of checkered Vans (from the 80’s), the Skeechers tennies (the early 90’s) we have had a fabulous time with the trends and helping you find that perfect pair of shoes for your next event. As we head into the next years we will love to help you find that next pair of Dansko’s or that Special Occassion Style and that unique handbag to help you make a personal statement. Check our fabulous Clothing Lines from Aventura ( a comfort clothing line), unique items from Katina and Le Glitz to Tabask and Smartwool Sweaters and later this year Life is Good. Our goal is to continue to be that special part of your life.

We have moved from Super City Mall to the Lakewood Mall in Aberdeen, SD (in our second location at the Mall)-we have expanded our shoe store to include clothing, gifts and accessories. We now consider ourselves a boutique that offers unique items for your every need. We add to this brick and mortar setting (my personal feeling) a fabulous website. Together as a team we work hard to offer you unique and striking items for the seasons ahead.

The Summer Flew By

August 25th, 2008

I apologize that I have not kept this blog up. The spring and summer flew by for the store, our staff and my family. We had a fabulous season, but now we are geared up for The Fall Season and The Special Holiday Season. We have just returned from markets and have worn our elves hats to make your shopping experience with us even more special this year.

In September we will be focused on Soft Lines of the Footwear lines that we have ordered. Beautiful Boots, Comfortable Clogs and the Fabulous New Limited Editions styles by “Dansko”. We have added Clothing lines-a very special Denimn line by “Fidelity”. (Ladies you will love this line). Watch for new items to be posted weekly to our site during this rapidly changing Season.

Enjoy your last weeks of Summer. Children are heading back to School, but take the time for an outdoor fire, one last S’more, one last boat ride, take the time to enjoy a walk or bike ride as the sun sets a little earlier. Savor the moments of Fall.

Half-ways to Spring

February 1st, 2008

Hello February. We are almost half ways to spring and warmer weather.

The weather has been down right frigid here. This week the windchill was -50 or so - give or take a wind gust. Dressing appropriately, mildly protected you from the elements outside.

Enough I say-on to spring. Sandals have started to arrive - maybe this is why I am being impatient for spring? In the meantime I will satisfy my spring fashion needs by transitioning into the season with a few new items. I know the new animal prints by Sanita and Yellowbox bring the animal out in everyone. Add a dash of animal to your footwear and accessories and you have a complete new ensemble.

For Valentine’s Day I suggest a hand painted clog by “Romney”. The Rose/zebra print and the Love Cookie are sure to seal your fate this Valentine’s Day. Remember my goal for this 2008 “REAL TIME” FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. ENJOY AND HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

Looking forward and giving Thanks

January 9th, 2008

Thank-you for a wonderful 2007. I hope you had a joyous, fulfilling Holiday Season and Year. I was blessed with a busy year at the store-we worked hard, everyone worked a lot of hours, but at the end of the craziness I was able to spend real time with my family.

Did you have time for REAL TIME? I call real time-the time I have to sit and enjoy life. To Laugh, to visit, to play, to reflect. Work is fun, don’t get me wrong, but real time with my family and friends - oh my it can’t get better than that. Waking up to both of our children being in the house Christmas morn and enjoying coffee together was one of those moments.

Now on the home front here at the store. We have been busy putting together Spring/Summer lines for you. The early predictions for cruise wear are brights are the focus in all accessories. Our Big Buddha Handbags in Bright Patents, Silver Metallic Patents and White Patent are a hit. (Yes - white and yellow Patent). I love these.

Our Animal Print ballet skimmers are a fabulous hit and our ballet skimmers by Bernardo are great traveling partners. And Espadrilles are sure to be in everyones suitcases this year.

Zachery - our son and I have just returned from Chicago where we dined, shopped the footwear lines and wrapped up plans for this season. Travel safely if you have the time-enjoy and take time for real time. Life is short-Enjoy.

The Leaves are Falling

October 3rd, 2007

What a beautiful week this has been. The Leaves are full of color. The air is crisp in the morning and at night. The days are warm and cozy.

My husband has been busy baking apple pies using apples from our tree. He has been perfecting his recipe. This weekend I look forward to apple crisp.

While-he has been baking-I have been a enjoying the season by. getting ready for fall in the store. We have added many new Handbags, Footwear styles and brands plus Cothing to our selections:

Fall has beautiful leathers from Dansko, Pikolinos, Rieker, Finn Comfort and Naot-(pewters-reds-leopards-greens burgandy-rich browns). We have fun leopard clogs from Sanita.

Childrens Robeez Shoes (Grandmas these are the best gift). And the most fun is our branch out into clothing by Double D Ranchwear for women and Smartwool Sweaters for men and women. (More brands to come yet) I am thinking like a boutique-not a lot of inventory-a few pieces here and there so you will not see yourself walking down the street or at a function.

Come join us in the store to see these fabulous pieces. We have added Smartwool to our website and this week the Double D Ranchwear will also be up.

In the mean time a few suggestions for fall are Boots by Pikolinos, Dansko and Bernardo-to the knee or ankle-boots add texture and depth to your wardrobe. Our boots are made for walking this year.

We also have fun ballet flats from Bernardo to transition into fall/winter. And as always our goal is to provide Comfort for events and functions. So watch for new items to arrive in the store and on the website.

Call with questions we are open 7 days a week for you 605.225.0620
Enjoy the Fall Season-bake a pie. The aroma itself is sets me back for 5 pounds-but oh so worth it.

Where has the Summer Gone

August 24th, 2007

Summer ran away this year for me. Our daughter graduated in May from ISU. My nephew graduated High School in June from Minnetonka high school in Minnesota. We celebrated the 4th of July as a family and boom the summer is half over. In August our daughter and I drove across the country to move her to Sacramento, CA. That in itself is another story. Two women, long drive enough said.

As a family we went to market in Las Vegas and the rest of the summer was gone. We played, we worked hard, we drove hard this summer. I hope you had a wonderful moment as a family this year.

With this we transition our mind and soles into fall. New items will be posted shortly on our website. We have shopped for fall and the holidays with care and hope you are as excited about the new items that will be posted shortly on our site.

Enjoy the last weekend of summer. Grill, drink and be merry while being careful. Thank the Lord for your health and your time on this earth.

Be thoughtful and considerate to everyone and everything.
